Named Raijin (Thunder God), this kotogata (straight body type) shinai has been specially crafted with the ritsumen kezuri technique. 

(*Ritsumen kezuri is the technique of shaving a piece of bamboo to make it narrower but maintain its thickness. The technique improves the balance of the shinai, and the thickness increases the strength.) 

Using rare and heavy madake bamboo, the craftsman shaved it with great care.

The result is a resilient shinai.

The ritsumen kezuri technique retains the thickness of the bamboo, which enhances the strength of the shinai and makes it durable during intense uchikomi (striking drills).
